EHHS Bi-Weekly Newsletter

Welcome: We are adding some new families to this newsletter; some are parents of incoming freshmen while some are parents of transfer students. We hope that you find our newsletter full of important information.
Many Thanks: We would like to thank all the parents and community members who came to EHHS during exams to help with proctoring the End of Course Exams. This is a huge undertaking and it was made much easier with the help of so many East Henderson Friends. It is wonderful to have support during this hectic time of year.
EHHS Summer Hours: Please remember that Henderson County Schools on traditional schedule are closed on Friday’s during Summer Break. The EHHS office is open Monday-Thursday from 8:00-4:00.
Summer Reading Lists: All students who are taking Honors English Classes are required to do summer reading. Below is a list of titles:
¨ English I Honors- Animal Farm by George Orwell and you must choose one of the following: Warriors Don’t Cry by Melba Patillo Beals, any volume in The Uglies by Scott Westerfield and Chew On This by Eric Schlosser
¨ English II Honors- Siddhartha by Herman Hesse and you must choose one of the following: Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmund Rostand and The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas.
¨ English III Honors- A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway and you must choose one of the following: My Antonia by Willa Cather, Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.
¨ English IV Honors- Lord of the Flies by William Golding and you must choose one of the following: Emma by Jane Austen, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and As You Like It by William Shakespeare.
Student Owes: We have a long list of students who have not returned textbooks, uniforms, etc. All debts to EHHS must be cleared in order to receive your schedules for next year. If you have any items belonging to EHHS at your home, in your car, or anywhere other than EHHS please return them as soon as possible. This will help to complete all schedules.
Schedules: Due to the potential State Budget Cuts we have not finalized our schedules. We hope to have them available second week in August. We will send out an Alert Now message as soon as they are finalized.
Mark your Calendars now: We will hold a New Parent Orientation at 6:00pm on August 17th in the Burns Auditorium at EHHS. New Student Orientation is on August 18th from 9:00-1:00. This is a great time to find your classes, learn about EHHS, catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Lunch will be provided.
Senior Portraits: All Seniors need to have portraits taken this summer to be included in the yearbook. Lifetouch is available in the Biltmore Square Mall. Please contact them to have your pictures taken. Even if you don’t want to purchase a picture package, please drop by and have your formal pictures made for the yearbook. Lifetouch number is: 684-0543
Physicals: All Fall Sports will begin tryouts and practice the first week of August. You must have a current physical on file in the EHHS office to begin. Please drop by the EHHS office if you need a physical form.
Women’s Soccer Camp: EHHS Women will hold a Soccer Camp, July 13-16 from 9:00 until 12:00. The cost is $60. Contact Coach Betsinger if you have any questions.
Men’s Soccer: Men’s Soccer tryouts will begin on August 3rd at 3:30-5:30pm on the Softball field at EHHS. You must have a physical to tryout. Our new coach suggests that you do conditioning before camp. A complete schedule of conditioning and summer workout sessions is available at the EHHS office. There is a group that plays every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and some Saturday are until August 3rd. That group meets from 4:30-6:30pm on the softball field.
Volley Dynamics Clinic 2009- EHHS students are invited to attend this camp on July 27-29 at North Henderson High School. The cost is $125. The clinic is directed by Gylton Da Matta, Ph.D. More information is available at EHHS office. You may also contact Coach Pippen at epippen@ehh.henderson.k12.nc.us
Cross County Camp: EHHS will hold a Cross County Clinic on July 27-30. All students, grades 9-12 are invited. The cost is $50. The camp will run from 8:00-10:30. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Jana Dobbins at 243-0378. More information is available at the EHHS office.
